Six Flags Adventure
After a week of mini camp, several players took advantage of a free Saturday last week (May 19) and headed to Six Flags America in Bowie, Md. to relax and have some fun. The quintet of Ravens cornerback David Pittman, running back P.J. Daniels, return specialist B.J. Sams, wideout Demetrius Williams and cornerback Derrick Martin did not fly solo, as they were the guests of the Sunshine Kids, a nonprofit organization dedicated to children with cancer. Established in 1982, the Sunshine Kids are committed to providing positive group activities and emotional support for young cancer patients. The nonprofit provides a variety of programs and events, free of charge, for kids who are receiving cancer treatments in hospitals across North America.
The players were on hand the entire day to spend with the children. BaltimoreRavens.com caught up with two of the guys along for the ride.

Q. What was your favorite ride?
A. "The Superman, I enjoyed that."
Q. You gave the kids a fun day, what did you get from them?
A. "You know, just the simple fact that they were smiling. I don't know. It was good to see them smiling."
Q. How does this compare to the other events that you have been involved in?
A. "It was a chance to interact with the kids. And actually get to go do things with them, as far as they got to ride with us and we got to ride with them. So, I mean we got a little bit of both."
Q. If you had to sum up the day as a whole, give us a little overview.
A. "It was a humbling experience because you get to see kids that aren't able to do some of things we take for granted in your normal everyday life. Then also to see the outlook that they have about it. I mean a lot of kids are comfortable with it, and other people keep staring at them and stuff like that. They were comfortable with what was going on, that was kind of a positive thing for me because I just took it as a [great thing]."
Q. Explain the feeling that you had at the end of the day.
A. "It was a good feeling, like I said I got a chance to put a smile on the kids' faces, and at the same time I had fun. I got to ride rides, too. It was a great day."

Q. How many kids did you spend the day with?
A. "Five to a group. But I pretty much spent the day with two kids. You know both of them were 16, a male and a female. I gave them my number. One of the kids asked me if I was giving them my number because they had cancer, and I was like ‘No man, that's not the case.' I have a great heart, so I liked that he got straight to the point."
Q. What was your favorite ride?
A. "Superman! I enjoyed it. I felt like I was flying."
Q. What did you learn about the kids?
A. "I just learned that a lot of people look at them as helpless people, but they are still people. They are just hindered by a disease that they have to get treatment on. They just want to be treated as people."
Q. Can you sum up the day for us?
A. "The highlights were being there and putting a smile on their faces, because that's what I like to do. The highlight of the day was when I gave them my number and all my information, that just kind of moved me just to see them happy, and to see them keep on striving for whatever, it doesn't really matter if you have cancer. You can fight it till your 180 but just tell them don't give up, whatever you do don't let other people destroy your dreams."
