Ravens Players Post-Game Quotes - Eagles
LB PRESCOTT BURGESS
(On his expectations for tonight)
"Just go out there and do what I've been doing in practice, and just execute. Those are the biggest things. We just put what we've been trying to do in practice and on the field into the game."
(On his performance tonight)
"I think I did pretty well. The other linebackers said I played like a Ravens linebacker, so they gave me thumbs up. I just have to continue getting better each day."
(On if he has higher expectations for himself because of the strength of the Ravens' linebackers)
"Yeah, they are known as a great linebacking group, and I'm just trying to be a part of it, and just come out here and get better. You can't stay at the same spot that you're at now just because you did well in one game. You want to continue to be great, and I want to be great."
(On how much he played inside versus outside tonight)
"I didn't play outside this game. I played a lot of inside and it really felt good. I made a lot of plays, I'm just trying to be versatile. They were going to play me outside, something happened, and I didn't get to play it."
(On if his performance tonight changed his expectations for the season)
"My expectations are always the same. I always have high expectations and I'm just always trying to conquer my goals. This is just a start to doing that in that direction. I'm just out here trying to join the crew as a Baltimore Raven."
WR DEMETRIUS WILLIAMS
(On the offense's performance tonight)
"We have a year under our belt with Steve (McNair), and Coach Billick is calling the plays and doing a good job with that. And I just think we're just going out there and trying to execute."
(On having a year under his belt as a Raven)
"It's a big help for me. I have a better concept of the offense and I just got a chance to really go out there and now it's just about playing. I know the offense a lot better than last year and I'm not wondering what to do so much this year."
(On if he has a more clear understanding of his role this year)
"I know there are some big expectations of me, so I definitely have to live up to them. But I feel like I just have to play my game as far as me. Everything else will just fall into place."
(On what he means by playing his game)
"Just play comfortable. The biggest thing is that I just have to go out there and run the routes like I normally do against our defense. And that's another good thing to attest to our defense. We've got a good defense, so going out there against them everyday is one of the most difficult things to do."
(On the competition within the receivers)
"Of course there is competition. We've got great receivers up and down the board. There's competition everyday, but I think it's good because it makes us better."
LB ANTWAN BARNES
(On how he felt to be out there tonight)
"For my first game I think I did pretty well. As other players say, to get over that hump - to finally get that sack – the play that exhausted me was that first play I was in, when I almost made the tackle. But I knew everything was going to be OK from then on."
(On how it felt to play for the first time in Baltimore)
"Really good. I think this is where I've gotten the most pumped up with the crowd. I've never had this at FIU (Florida International University), with the crowd noise and everything. They did a big part with getting loud, raising there hands up and everything was pretty good."
(On his overall performance tonight)
"It was pretty good. I still had some mistakes that I made, but I can always go back into the film room and look at all of the mistakes that I made and just get ready for the next game."
DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR REX RYAN
(On Prescott Burgess's performance tonight)
"I never noticed him play (laughs). I think he did OK. He had a hit that he got dinged on. He blew the guy up, but you have got to have a hard hit in this game. So he'll have to work on that soft hit of his. But he's a smart kid and he's tremendous. I think he's going to be a great help to us. He's got that Raven mentality and Raven mindset that fits right in with the rest of our guys."
(On if playing inside tonight is foreshadowing where he'll play the rest of the season)
"He could play inside or outside, so we're working him at both spots. Jeff Fitzgerald is doing a great job with him. But he's working as an inside linebacker and as a strong side outside linebacker."
QB DREW OLSON
(On what it's like to be back in the States after playing in NFL Europa)
"It's great, it's good to be back on American soil."
(On the competition at QB between him and Troy Smith)
"We're real close. Obviously we're still competing, but it's very friendly. We've known each other since high school. We've known each other a long time. We followed each other's careers and all that, but we've always got each other's backs. It's a quarterback… and it's a competition too, and you're obviously competing for your job."
(On whether he feels the pressure on the field)
"I'd lie to you if I said I didn't feel it, but you try to put it in the back as much as you can and try to just go out there and play and be as smooth and calm as you can."
(On how his experience in NFL Europa helped him tonight)
"I think more than anything, just the relaxing part. Just going out there, getting under the center, calling plays, getting to the line, that's the biggest thing I learned over there. Just taking extra reps. Obviously, we weren't running the Ravens' offense over there, so that's different, but just as far as gaining game experience and those sorts of things, that's what I gained."
K MATT STOVER
(On never kicking two 50-yard field goals)
"It just shows you that it started off the comfort that I have with Matt Katula, the snapper, and Sam Koch, the punter, who's the holder. The fact that we've got a good rhythm going already. Last year at this time, I wasn't even kicking with Sam Koch, if you can remember, it was Leo Araguz at this time. Not knowing what Sam was going to turn out to be like. So to have that starting off at the beginning of training camp and the whole offseason, it's been a real privilege."
(On his confidence building)
"You're always competing for a job in the NFL. There's always somebody out there to take your spot. My big thing is getting ready for the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday night, and this was a good start. It helps me get my mind right, get my eyes focused and train to be able to perform well, and that's where my key focus is. Today doesn't help tomorrow, and I have to continue to work to get better."
(On hitting the 50-yard FGs not being his forte)
"I still went out there with my seven iron, I mean, come on. The ball was flying nice tonight, so I just try to keep the ball the same way. Training camp, I missed a few field goals, getting my swing together. The swing got together sometime about mid week of this past week, and today it really was put together. And I'll tell you, the fact that Katula and Sam, the ball was straight ahead and ready to go, and I even had a field goal with Brendan Carney holding and Nick Leeson snapping out there today. We had the short field goal with them and a couple PATs, so knowing that we have good overall specialists on this team really goes a long way."
TE QUINN SYPNIEWSKI
(On his touchdown)
"It finally opened up in the back of the endzone and I was able to find a hole. Steve was able to get the ball to me."
(On if he was surprised to score the touchdown)
"We've been running that play a lot in camp, but we haven't hit it in camp yet. Just knowing that if the linebackers move just right, I'm going to find a hole back there."
(On if his contact lenses help him catch)
"They definitely help the ball stand out a little bit more."
FB LE'RON McCLAIN
(On scoring his first NFL touchdown)
"It was great. I woke up this morning just dreaming about that, what if that happened. When they called the play, I knew I was going to get the ball and I got in the endzone. It felt great."
(On QB Troy Smith)
"He was pretty calm out there and led us down the field. We've got confidence in him. He makes good reads and good passes and helps us out a lot. He was pretty confident, he was picking us up in the huddle, calling the right plays, and reading the right routes. I think he had a pretty good night."
(On the Ravens' running game)
"The o-line was on top of everything. They've been doing good all training camp. They've backed us in the right holes. The half-backs and tight ends have been making good blocks. We had a good running game."
