Ravens in the Community: Week 9
The Ravens, in conjunction with Operation Blessing and the Baltimore Office of the Mayor, hosted the annual Autumn Harvest food distribution at M&T Bank Stadium Saturday, Nov. 3.
Close to 200 volunteers from local businesses, churches and schools joined Ravens linebackers Antwan Barnes and Dan Cody and cornerback Derrick Martin, to distribute 2,500 bags filled with perishable and nonperishable groceries to Baltimore families in need. More than 1,000 bags specially made for children were also distributed, and free vision screenings were available on site.
Stalwart Raven Jonathan Ogden hosted his annual charity boxing event, "An Evening Ringside" at Martin's Valley Mansion last Thursday, Nov. 1. Ravens guard Chris Chester, wideout Mark Clayton, guard Ikechuku Ndukwe, cornerbacks Corey Ivy and Chris McAlister, safety Gerome Sapp, linebackers Terrell Suggs and Bart Scott, tackle Adam Terry, and wideout Demetrius Williams, were among Ravens players in attendance during the evening.
The event featured a cocktail hour, sit-down dinner, boxing matches, silent auction and live sports auction between bouts. This unique boxing gala benefited the Jonathan Ogden Foundation, which helps students in city schools achieve their potential through athletics and education.
The Ravens are holding a kickoff event at the Timonium Shoppers Food and Pharmacy location Tuesday from 6 - 7 p.m. celebrating the start of the three-week Ravens' Family Food & Funds Drive.
Ravens guard Jason Brown is heading to the Timonium Shoppers location to meet fans and sign autographs in exchange for food donations. Beginning Nov. 1, collection bins were placed at 16 Shoppers locations in Anne Arundel County, Baltimore City, Baltimore County and Carroll County benefiting the Maryland Food Bank. The food drive will run until Nov. 18, when volunteers will be stationed outside M&T Bank Stadium Gates for food and fund donations.
Bart Scott continued his monthly parties at Kennedy Krieger Institute in Baltimore Tuesday from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Scott spent the afternoon with youth in the spinal cord injury unit playing games, eating lunch and singing karaoke. Scott visits Kennedy Krieger Institute each month to play, encourage and spend time with children in the hospital. This week, he brought a Nintendo Wii to donate to the children in the spinal cord unit.
