Ravens in the Community
It's the holiday season, and that means that the Ravens are busy as ever in the community. Here is a look at what's been going on this week:
Shop With a Raven
Ravens tackle Adam Terry, in partnership with Dick's Sporting Goods, hosted ‘Shop With a Raven' with Special Olympics Maryland Monday at Dick's Sporting Goods in Hunt Valley, Md. Dick's Sporting Goods donated $100 gift certificates to 50 SOMD athletes. Terry, a spokesperson for Special Olympics Maryland, was joined by guard Ben Grubbs, practice squad quarterback Cullen Finnerty, Ravens cheerleaders and Poe for a pizza party and the shopping event.
Ravens ESPN Zone PAL Party
Tight end Daniel Wilcox, wideout Yamon Figurs and safety Jamaine Winborne joined Ravens cheerleaders, Lady Ravens and Poe to host 150 Baltimore Police Athletic League (PAL) members Tuesday morning for the 10th annual ESPN Zone Ravens Holiday Party. Players distributed wrapped gifts and spent time with the youth.
Scott at Kennedy Kreiger
Linebacker Bart Scott visited Kennedy Krieger Institute for his monthly party with children in the spinal cord injury wing Tuesday. He will spend the afternoon with youth, enjoying a pizza party and playing interactive Nintendo Wii games.
MOM Squad Hosts Holiday Party for Area Youth
Receiver Mark Clayton hooked up with the National MOM Squad, a nonprofit organization bettering communities nationwide, in hosting a holiday party for Baltimore youth Tuesday evening. The children were treated to an old-fashioned holiday celebration, consisting of gifts, dinner and carols.
In addition, world-renowned surgeon Dr. Ben Carson, director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Medical Institution, spoke to the youth. The National MOM Squad was formed to benefit at-risk youth and partners with such organizations as the Police Athletic League, Boys and Girls Clubs, and other charitable grassroots organizations with similar missions.
Holiday Party – Castle Toyota
Ravens quarterback Steve McNair was at Castle Toyota again this year, hosting 200 underprivileged Baltimore youth for a holiday party. The Steve McNair Foundation has donated t-shirts, autographed photos and footballs to all of the youth, and McNair joined Santa Claus in distributing additional gifts to the children. Area police officers, fire fighters, city leaders and council members were also in attendance.
Willis McGahee Toy Drive
Stalwart running back Willis McGahee closed out his first-ever toy drive, benefiting the Howard County Community Action Council, which provides programs and emergency services for the low-income population of Howard County.
McGahee collected toys throughout the season through his radio show, broadcast live every Thursday with Anita Marks. The five-year veteran was on hand at Dasher Green Head Start Center in Columbia, Md. to distribute the 650 toys brought in by the drive.
