After a tough loss to the Indianapolis Colts, the Ravens still found time to get to work in the community. Here is a look at the events this week:
Ravens Join Congressman Sarbanes and Boys & Girls Club In Getting Fit and Healthy
Congressman John Sarbanes and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County introduced House Resolution 3733, the National Foundation on Physical Fitness and Sports Establishment Act on Monday at the Boys & Girls Club at Freetown Village in Pasadena, Md. In line with the Ravens' efforts to increase the physical activity and nutrition education of Baltimore-area children, the resolution takes a positive step toward building a healthier nation and sets out to promote and improve physical fitness and sports programs.
Through the Ravens All Community Team Foundation's Plan in Motion grant, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County initiated the Get Smart, Get Healthy program in 2007. This program provided for the teaching of nutrition and physical activity components to 150 youth.
Joined by Congressman Sarbanes, more than 100 youth were in attendance Monday to demonstrate a fitness challenge, established through the Get Smart, Get Healthy program. Ravens cheerleaders and Poe, one of the Ravens' official mascots, also appeared
Scott's Annual Holiday Party for Belmont Elementary School Students
For the second year, Ravens linebacker Bart Scott hosted a holiday party for 200 Baltimore youth at Port Discovery Monday evening. Joined by teammate Derrick Martin, the players gathered presents donated from fans, players, Ravens staff and other donors, and the children had the opportunity to select gifts for themselves and loved ones during the special event. In addition, representatives from the American Culinary Federation were on hand to treat the youth to a holiday buffet dinner.
Stover Hosts Advanced Screening of The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep
Kicker Matt Stover hosted an advance screening of The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep for 200 youth from St. Vincent's Center, Villa Maria and Casey Cares at the Regal (Hoyts) Cinemas Hunt Valley Mall Tuesday evening. Sony Pictures produced the movie, set to open Christmas Day, which tells the story of an enchanted egg, and what hatches will set in motion an adventure that will take a young boy on the unforgettable journey of a lifetime.
Lewis Holiday Gift Marketplace
Linebacker Ray Lewis got into the holiday spirit with his annual Holiday Gift Marketplace event at the Marriot Hotel in Baltimore Tuesday night. In partnership with Unilever, the Ray Lewis Foundation gave 200 children the opportunity to choose a gift for themselves and another person for the holiday season. Mayor Sheila Dixon and actor Nathan Corbett from The Wire were on hand.
