History has shown that Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome is one of the best in the NFL at evaluating talent. With four compensatory picks in the upcoming draft, he’ll have more chances to add firepower to Baltimore’s roster.

The Ravens’ four extra picks tie the Cincinnati Bengals for the most in the league.

Compensatory picks are given to teams losing more or better compensatory free agents than it acquires in a year.

After offering a third-round pick in the trade for Willis McGahee last season, the Ravens are back in the round (99th overall) when linebacker Adalius Thomas went to the New England Patriots in free agency.

The Ravens also lost tackle Tony Pashos, fullback Ovie Mughelli and defensive tackle Aubrayo Franklin, earning spots in the fourth (133rd), sixth (206th) and seventh (240th) rounds, respectively.

Since the practice of awarding compensatory picks began in 1994, the Ravens have earned a league-high 29, which shows the team’s emphasis on building through the draft.
