Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs was already nominated for the GMC Sierra Defensive Player of the Week, which is voted on by the fans, and now he’s being recognized by the league.

Suggs’ big day in a 27-13 win over the Miami Dolphins last week earned him AFC Defensive Player of the Week honors for Week 7.

Suggs notched nine tackles and a sack, but it was his 44-yard touchdown reception in the second half that broke open a 3-3 game and gave the Ravens a lead they never relinquished.

In his Monday press conference, head coach John Harbaugh called the play “the turning point in the game.”

The pick-six, which occurred when Suggs jumped in front of Dolphins running back Patrick Cobbs and stole Chad Pennington’s short pass, was the first touchdown of Suggs’ prolific six-year career.

“The first thing I thought was, ‘Score,’” Suggs said after the game. “That was my first touchdown, because I always get caught at the 1. I’m sad to say I almost got caught at the 1 again. I got it in, but I was looking at the JumboTron – I’m not Ed Reed, now – but it seemed that first 15-20 yards took forever.”

The 2005 Defensive Rookie of the Year has 49 career sacks and is only two away from tying Michael McCrary for No. 2 on the Ravens’ all-time list.

Currently, Suggs leads the team with four sacks and is second with 46 stops on the year.
