Bouman Agrees to New Deal

The Ravens moved one step closer to shoring up their quarterback position Tuesday when Todd Bouman agreed to a new contract.

Terms of the deal were not released by the team.

Bouman joins Joe Flacco and Troy Smith as the trio of signal-callers Baltimore will bring into the 2009 campaign, the second consecutive year the trio has played together.

A savvy 11-year veteran, Bouman did not play in any games for the Ravens last season, but he did serve as a steady influence for Flacco during Flacco’s rookie campaign.

Bouman also manned the critical role of scout team quarterback, making Baltimore’s second-ranked defense work hard in every practice as he ran the upcoming opponent’s offense.

The St. Cloud State product entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 1997. Since then, he has played in 42 career contests with six starts, spending time with the Minnesota Vikings, New Orleans Saints, Green Bay Packers and Jacksonville Jaguars.

Bouman, 36, originally joined the Ravens on Sept. 3 - less than a week after he was waived by Jacksonville - to add depth when Kyle Boller was moved to Injured Reserve because of a shoulder injury and Smith recovered from a tonsil infection and blood clot in his lung that put him in the hospital.

For the first five weeks of the season, Bouman was the team’s top backup, but he was listed as the third quarterback when Smith returned.
