Cody Suffers Knee Sprain, Draughn Has Ankle Sprain

Posted Sep 22, 2013

Running back Shaun Draughn also suffered a high ankle sprain.

The injury bug continued to hit the Ravens Sunday.

Nose tackle Terrence Cody suffered a knee sprain in the first quarter and was not able to return. The initial examination indicated that the injury is not lasting, but Cody will have additional tests to determine the severity.

“It does not look to be a long-term sprain,” Head Coach John Harbaugh said. “We’ll know more tomorrow. It could be this week, but more likely, it will be a couple of weeks.”

Cody’s injury came at a time when the Ravens are already dealing with some depth issues on the defensive line. Veteran defensive end Chris Canty sat out Sunday’s game because of a groin injury and the Ravens hope to get him back in the lineup next week.

In addition to Cody, running back Shaun Draughn went down with a high ankle sprain and linebacker Albert McClellan had a minor hip injury.

Draughn suffered the injury in the fourth quarter and did not return to the game. High ankle sprains can take several weeks to recover, depending on how serious it is.

“I don’t know the severity of it, but it is termed right now as a high ankle,” Harbaugh said.

Sunday was Draughn’s first game as a Raven and he was active because starter Ray Rice was sidelined with a hip injury. Rice did not practice all week and Harbaugh said coming into the weekend that he would be a game-time decision.

If Rice’s injury lingers, Bernard Pierce would be the team’s only healthy running back going into this week, unless the Ravens look to the free-agent market.
