Cornerback Will Davis Has Torn ACL

The Ravens secondary didn’t need any more bad news, but it got some Monday morning.

Head Coach John Harbaugh confirmed that cornerback Will Davis has a torn ACL, which will sideline him for the rest of the season.

Davis suffered the injury in the first half of Sunday’s 33-30 loss to the Cleveland Browns and the Ravens secondary struggled to make up the difference. Baltimore surrendered 457 passing yards and two touchdowns to Josh McCown.

"It's tough for him because he was playing at a really high level," Harbaugh said.

Davis had impressed since joining Baltimore via trade on Sept. 21. The third-year former third-round pick was acquired from Miami for a seventh-round pick.

In just his second game in Baltimore, he became the Ravens’ No. 3 cornerback behind Jimmy Smith and Lardarius Webb. Davis lined up outside, bumping Webb to the slot, in three-wide formations. Davis made one tackle and one pass defensed in three games.

The injury is also a tough pill to swallow for Davis personally. It's his second ACL tear in as many years as Davis was knocked out after 10 games last season with the Dolphins. Harbaugh said he's almost positive the injury was to Davis' other knee.

Without Davis, the Ravens would likely turn to veteran Kyle Arrington, although they may explore their options. Rashaan Melvin was a healthy scratch against the Browns and rookie Tray Walker and safety Terrence Brooks have also stepped in.

The Ravens currently rank 25^th in the NFL in passing defense, allowing 278 yards per game. Injuries hurt the secondary last year and are starting to build this season. Webb (thigh) and Arrington (concussion protocol) also did not finish Sunday’s game.

Harbaugh said the Ravens are confident they could find another cornerback on the market. They could also promote Charles James or Asa Jackson from the practice squad.

"It's not that late [in the season to find someone]," Harbaugh said. "You start getting past this time, close to the midway point, that's where it kind of dries up on you. There are some corners out there right now that can play and we're looking at those guys."
