Fans Vote Zero Ravens Into Pro Bowl

Posted Dec 17, 2015

In the final fan tally, Sam Koch finished in fourth place, Marshal Yanda ninth and Brandon Williams ninth.

Well, it’s on the NFL’s players and coaches to get the Ravens to Hawaii.

Fan Pro Bowl voting ended Monday at midnight and the final tally is in.

No Ravens are among the top two in fan voting – zero.

Baltimore’s top vote getters were fullback Kyle Juszczyk (third), special teamer Albert McClellan (third), punter Sam Koch (fourth), kicker Justin Tucker (fourth), guard Marshal Yanda (ninth) and defensive tackle Brandon Williams (ninth).

The Ravens have always had at least one Pro Bowl representative in their 20 years of franchise history. It’s not required that every team have a player at the all-star game like it is in Major League Baseball.

Baltimore’s weakest Pro Bowl showing was in 2005 when left tackle Jonathan Odgen was the team’s only representative after a 6-10 season.

Most likely, Baltimore’s 4-9 record is dragging down stellar Pro Bowl-worthy individual performances.

Koch leads the NFL in net punting average (44.2 yards). His fourth-place finish is particularly surprising considering Koch finished first in fan voting last year and is having an even better season this year.

Koch, who was recently profiled by ESPN as a game-changing punter, was beaten out in votes by the Colts’ Pat McAfee, Patriots’ Ryan Allen and Seahawks’ Jon Ryan.

This year, the players and coaches will have to be the ones to get Koch (and other Ravens) the credit they deserve.

“I have a lot of confidence in them,” Special Teams Coordinator Jerry Rosburgh said. “Sam is richly deserving of that honor. Perhaps the rest of the league has figured that out as well. We certainly are looking forward to that.”

Yanda has gone to four consecutive Pro Bowls and hasn’t trailed off one bit. He’s rated as the best guard in the league by Pro Football Focus (PFF), and it’s not even close. Yanda has a plus-35.5 rating and Buffalo’s Richie Incognito has posted a plus-28.3 rating.

Williams is rated as the NFL’s best run stopper, per PFF. He’s having a breakout season, but sacks often get the attention and Williams hasn’t yet become a household name.

Juszczyk has shown he’s one of the league’s most versatile fullbacks. He leads all NFL fullbacks in receptions (25), and is just 7 yards short of Oakland’s Marcel Reece in receiving yardage (222) and touchdown catches (2).

Here’s who fans voted into this year’s Pro Bowl:
