History Of John Harbaugh's Coaching Hires

Posted Feb 8, 2014

John Harbaugh has a track record of hiring former head coaches and assistants with plenty of experience.

The start of the offseason has been busy for Ravens Head Coach John Harbaugh.

He has re-shaped his coaching staff, bringing in new Offensive Coordinator Gary Kubiak and also started the process of replacing five other assistants.

Harbaugh has hired former Texans Offensive Coordinator Rick Dennison as his quarterbacks coach former Texans Tight Ends Coach Brian Pariani to the same job with the Ravens. He also hired Wisconsin’s Thomas Hammock as the running backs coach and still has to officially fill the open wide receivers coaching job.

Harbaugh will work to finalize his staff over the next couple of weeks after he returns from an overseas trip to the Middle East.

As Harbaugh has re-built his staff, he has largely stuck with consistent hiring practices throughout his six years in Baltimore. He has brought in proven coaches and shown a willingness to hire former head coaches to work under him.

In addition to Kubiak, the other former head coaches Harbaugh hired are:

Cam Cameron (offensive coordinator, 2008-2012)
Jim Caldwell (quarterbacks coach, offensive coordinator, 2012-13)
Jim Zorn (quarterbacks coach, 2010)
Steve Spagnuolo (Sr. defensive assistant, assistant head coach/secondary coach, 2013-present)

Here’s a look at the assistant coaching hires Harbaugh has made during his time with the Ravens:

(Note, some of the coaches listed below were on staff before Harbaugh arrived in 2008, but he opted to retain them when he was hired as head coach)
