Jacoby Jones Returned A Kick For A Touchdown In His First Arena League Game

Posted Mar 22, 2017

Former Ravens wide receiver/returner Jacoby Jones is playing with the Monterrey Steel of the National Arena League. It was four years ago when Jones set a Super Bowl record for the longest kickoff return.

There’s still some magic left in Jacoby Jones’ legs.

One of the Ravens’ heroes of Super Bowl XLVII, and the man on one end of the Mile High Miracle, is now playing for the Monterrey Steel of the National Arena League (NAL).

In his first game with his new team on Monday, Jones scored a touchdown on a kick return. How awesome is that?

Jones took a missed field goal back 58 yards for a touchdown. He also caught one pass for 7 yards in the Steel’s 55-12 win over the Corpus Christi Rage.

The Monterrey Steel is one of nine teams in the league, and the only team located in Mexico. An NAL field is only 85 feet wide and 50 yards long, so Jones doesn’t have to go 108 yards for a kickoff return touchdown like he did in Super Bowl XLVII.

“I guess when I start running, I'll end up in the stands,” Jones joked when being announced as a member of the Steel. “I appreciate the opportunity … to become part of the team. I want to do something different; I want to have fun playing this sport.”

Jones had a nine-year NFL career and played with the Ravens from 2012-2014. After being released by the Ravens, he played for the San Diego Chargers and Pittsburgh Steelers in 2015, but was out of football in 2016.

Despite that, Jones has still been attached to the Baltimore community, including to a boy named Coby, who is battling brain cancer. Jones recently flew from his home in Texas to give Coby a surprise tour of M&T Bank Stadium.
