Jason Babin, Will Davis To Make Ravens' Debuts

Posted Oct 1, 2015

The Ravens will give a pair of newcomers their first opportunity to play Thursday night.

A pair of recently acquired veterans will make their debuts in a Ravens uniform Thursday night.

Pass rusher Jason Babin and cornerback Will Davis are both active for the matchup with the Steelers at Heinz Field. They could play important roles on a defense looking to rebound from rough outings in back-to-back games.

The inactive players for Baltimore are left tackle Eugene Monroe, wide receiver Breshad Perriman, tight end Crockett Gillmore, defensive end Chris Canty, cornerbacks Tray Walker and Rashaan Melvin, and defensive lineman Christo Bilukidi.

Babin and Davis both arrived in Baltimore within the last three weeks. The Ravens signed Babin after the season-ending Achilles injury to Terrell Suggs, but the veteran pass rusher was a healthy scratch against the Raiders and Bengals.

Having Babin active will give the Ravens another pass rusher to get some pressure on Steelers quarterback Mike Vick.

Davis, who the Ravens acquired in a trade with Miami 10 days ago, gives Baltimore another option in the secondary. The unit has struggled the last two weeks, and the Ravens have given both Melvin and Kyle Arrington their opportunities as the team’s third cornerback.

Now Davis will get his shot to make a difference in the secondary against the talented Steelers passing attack.

With Monroe out for his third-straight game because of a concussion, James Hurst will start again at left tackle. Hurst also started at left tackle in last year’s playoff victory in Pittsburgh.

Lawrence Guy is expected to start in place of Canty (calf) and rookie Maxx Williams in place of Gillmore (calf).

Pittsburgh also had injuries of its own, as starting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and linebacker Ryan Shazier are both sidelined.
