Joe Flacco Even Better Than Michael Huff Thought

Posted Jun 10, 2013

New Ravens safety Michael Huff said Joe Flacco is ‘definitely one of the best in the NFL.’

Last week, Joe Flacco got praise from the highest of sources: President Barack Obama.

But hearing it from somebody that has defended him in the past is another thing.

New Ravens safety Michael Huff has been impressed by Flacco in practice thus far.

“He’s a lot better [than I thought],” Huff said. “I knew he was good before, but just seeing him every day in practice, just seeing him put the balls here in certain places; I’ll think I have great coverage and somehow he’ll find a way to squeeze it in there.”

Flacco has heard the “elite” debate throughout his young career. But that’s starting to fade now that Flacco is wearing a ring and was named Super Bowl XLVII’s most valuable player.

The President called him elite. And Huff subscribes to that notion as well.

“He’s definitely an elite quarterback and definitely one of the best in the NFL,” Huff said.

Huff did get an interception on Flacco last season when he challenged wide receiver Jacoby Jones for a sideline pass. The pass deflected off their hands, popped up and landed softly in Huff’s mitts.

Huff hasn’t had many similar opportunities this offseason, however, as Flacco has looked sharp in practice.

“He’s getting better each and every day,” Offensive Coordinator Jim Caldwell said. “Every single day he gets a little bit better. That’s exciting.

“Joe loves football. [He is] interested in getting better all the time. We have great dialogue just in terms of offensive schemes, schematic ideas that he has. He hasn’t changed a bit in that regard – still working just as hard.”
