John Harbaugh Has Never Lost With Extra Time

Posted Jan 24, 2013

Ravens have extra time to break down 49ers with two weeks until the Super Bowl.

While Ravens players have gotten a little time off to rest and take care of Super Bowl family obligations, coaches have been in the labs at Owings Mills, Md.

Two weeks until the Super Bowl means more time to prepare for the San Francisco 49ers.

And with extra time, Head Coach John Harbaugh, his staff and players have never lost.

They’ve won every regular-season opener in five years. They’ve won every time following a bye. They won when they had a first-round bye in last year’s playoffs.

Baltimore is 11-0 with extra time.

Part of that can be a credit to stellar preparation and scheming by the team’s coaching staff. Harbaugh said the staff spent the past three days game-planning.

“We have the best staff in the National Football League,” Harbaugh said. “I’ve said that many times. I believe it wholeheartedly.”

Another aspect is extra rest for the players. They had until Thursday to rest and safety Bernard Pollard said Harbaugh will “kind of” lighten things up in practice.

“I think it will be big,” quarterback Joe Flacco said. “We have a lot of guys who are healthy right now and playing well. A little bit of rest here will get them even better and even more revved up to go.”

Extra time also means extra practice. The Ravens will get a few days this week and over the weekend before departing for New Orleans, where they will set up shop at nearby Tulane University to continue prepping for the 49ers.

San Francisco began its practices for the Super Bowl on Wednesday.

“If we want to play our best football, our preparation the rest of this week and next week has to be outstanding if we want to show up on Super Bowl Sunday,” Pollard said.
