John Simon Signs Rookie Contract

Posted May 21, 2013

The Ravens now have seven of their 10 draft picks under contract.

The Ravens continue to get their rookie class under contract.

Fourth-round pick John Simon is the latest member of the draft class to sign his rookie deal. The four-year contract signed Tuesday was reportedly slated to be $2.546 million with a $385,652 signing bonus, according to The Baltimore Sun.

The Raven now have seven of their 10 draft picks under contract. The top three picks – safety Matt Elam, linebacker Arthur Brown and nose tackle Brandon Williams – all still have to sign their deals.

Simon, an outside linebacker out of Ohio State, was the Big 10 Defensive Player of the Year who is expected to compete with Courtney Upshaw and Albert McClellan for playing time. He was a defensive end in college, who showed potential as a pass rusher and was also solid against the run.

Simon finished last season with 44 tackles, nine sacks and 14.5 tackles for loss.

He is known for his gritty work ethic, and Ohio State Head Coach Urban Meyer routinely called him the “heart and soul” of the team.

After the Ravens drafted Simon, Head Coach John Harbaugh pointed out his character, and said that Simon is “our kind of guy.”
