Justin Forsett Suffers Broken Arm

Posted Nov 22, 2015

Justin Forsett's right arm was broken when Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald slammed him to the turf.

The Ravens have suffered yet another major injury to one of their stars.

Starting running back Justin Forsett left Sunday’s game in the first quarter with two broken bones in his right arm, which will end his season.

He was slammed down hard by last year’s Defensive Rookie of the Year, Aaron Donald, at the line of scrimmage, landing awkwardly on his forearm. Forsett immediately left the field with his arm in an air cast.

The 2014 Pro Bowler is one of the team’s leaders on and off the field. He’s one of the Ravens’ most respected and well-liked voices.

"It hurts to see somebody put in that much work and get hurt," backup Javorius Allen said.

Forsett had his finest season last year when he started 14 of 16 games and rushed for 1,266 yards and ran for eight touchdowns.

He was off to a bit of a slower start this season, but Forsett, 30, has 615 rushing yards and two touchdowns this season. He’s also a big part of the passing game with 31 catches for 153 yards.

On Sunday, Forsett was off to a hot start against the Rams before the body-slam tackle. He had four carries for 26 yards, including one for 18. Another long run was called back after a suspect tripping flag.

Without Forsett, Allen becomes the starter. His backup will be Raheem Mostert. Terrance West was a healthy scratch before the game, but he will likely see more snaps in the coming weeks.

Allen, a rookie fourth-round pick out of USC, finished Sunday's game with 22 rushes for 67 yards and five catches for 48 yards. His five receptions were tied for a team high. Allen accounted for the final 12 yards to put Justin Tucker in position for his game-winning field goal.

The Ravens have lost their three top offensive players to season-ending injuries with Flacco (knee), Forsett (arm) and wide receiver Steve Smith Sr. (Achilles) each out for the year.

Baltimore has also lost top players in outside linebacker Terrell Suggs (Achilles) and center (Jeremy Zuttah), and been without rookie first-round pick Breshad Perriman (knee) and tight end Dennis Pitta (hip) for the entire season.

Left tackle Eugene Monroe went down in the third quarter with a shoulder injury. His shoulder has been bothering him throughout the season and he's missed four games and most of another in Week 1 against the Broncos. That sent James Hurst back into action.

With Monroe on the sideline, the Ravens moved forward without three starting offensive linemen. Zuttah (pectoral) was put on injured reserve last week and left guard Kelechi Osemele was inactive with a knee injury.

"We practice like we're starting," right tackle Rick Wagner said. "There's a lot of experience in there, even though they’re backups."
