Justin Tucker Takes Over NFL's Longest Kicking Streak, Has Never Missed Extra Point

Posted Nov 21, 2016

The Ravens kicker drilled a 46-yard attempt Sunday in Dallas, giving him 30-straight successful boots. Tucker is 23-for-23 this season, and on a day in which 12 extra points were missed, he extended that streak to 153 straight.

Let’s just stop and take a minute, once again, to appreciate Ravens kicker Justin Tucker.

Sunday’s game in Dallas didn’t come down to a kicking duel between the two most accurate kickers in NFL history, but Tucker did come home with a new achievement.

Indianapolis Colts kicker Adam Vinatieri pushed a 42-yard field goal wide right on Sunday, snapping his NFL record of 44-straight field goals.

That means Tucker now has the NFL’s longest streak of field-goal attempts without a miss – 30 straight. Tucker is 23-for-23 this season after hitting a 46-yard kick in Dallas.

They haven’t all been chip shots either. Tucker is 11-for-11 on attempts from 40 to 49 yards and 4-for-4 on attempts of 50 yards or beyond. So 65 percent of his kicks have been from 40 yards or longer.

In light of Sunday’s NFL action, another area of Tucker’s game that should get more attention is his extra points.

A whopping 12 extra points were missed around the league Sunday – the most in one week in NFL history.

Tucker, meanwhile, has never missed an extra point in his college or NFL career. He went 71-for-71 at the University of Texas, and is 153-for-153 in the pros.

In 2015, the NFL moved the extra point back from the 2-yard line to the 15-yard line, turning what used to be an 18-yard extra point into a more difficult 33-yard attempt. Tucker wasn’t a big fan of the rule change at the time because it made an already tough job even tougher.

He and the Ravens did, however, feel like it could give them an advantage since they have one of the league’s best kickers.

“For me, it just means I get more field goals in games,” Tucker said in 2015. “The only difference is it’s a 33-yard field goal worth one point. That’s how I’m going to look at it.”
