The Ravens are accustomed to playing in close games as the first team in league history with its first 11 games decided by eight points or less.
What they’re not accustomed to is being on the fortunate side of what may have been a huge blown call by the officials (aka the Jacksonville loss).
In the Vine video below, safety Anthony Levine Jr. appeared to be lined up offsides prior to the snap and ensuing blocked kick by Urban. Levine jumped early, but was able to get back before being flagged with encroachment. The problem is it looks like his hand was lined up in front of the neutral zone.
“Levine did not have an impact on the play and Urban would have blocked the kick whether Levine had lined up onside or not,” wrote SB Nation’s Mark Sandritter. “Even still, it's pretty obvious he should have been flagged for being in the neutral zone.”
It’s also possible that Hill stepped out of bounds on the ensuing return for the game-winning touchdown. The picture below, however, doesn’t give a very good angle and isn’t very clear.
We didn't deserve this @NFL pic.twitter.com/VYMZPFUIDB
— Sports Nation Ohio (@SN_Ohio) December 1, 2015 It will be interesting to hear what, if anything, the league says about Levine potentially lining up in the neutral zone. If the NFL says it should have been flagged, the Browns would have had another shot at a field goal, this time from 46 yards out.
There’s no guarantee that Cleveland would have won in that situation– like the Ravens would have absolutely won the game against the Jaguars had the refs correctly called a false start at the end of the game – but something tells me it wouldn’t sting any less for Browns fans.
Luke Jones Needs To Buy A Lottery Ticket
I don’t like to gamble, but if I took Luke Jones with me to buy a lottery ticket today, I’m not sure I could consider it gambling.
The Ravens beat reporter for WNST is being called a “wizard” for predicting one of the craziest endings to a football game that you’re ever going to see.
Yes, he wrote this tweet before Urban’s improbable blocked field goal and Hill’s walk-off touchdown.
I'm calling it now. #Ravens block the field goal and return it for the game-winning touchdown. No one wants to win.
— Luke Jones (@BaltimoreLuke) December 1, 2015 Dang! Tucker Can Tackle Too
Add another talent to ![]()
The man who can sing opera in seven different languages can also deliver a mean hit. Browns return man Justin Gilbert actually left the game with a concussion after Tucker’s tackle and did not return.
Well Damn @jtuck9 can tackle!!!!! #Ravens
— Qadry Ismail (@QadryIsmail) December 1, 2015 Harbaugh One Gutsy Dude On Fourth Down
The Ravens have now converted a league-high six first downs on fourth- and-1 this season, according to ESPN Stats and Info. Their conversation percentage (85.7) is very high too, as they’ve done that on seven attempts.
Harbaugh was 2-for-2 on fourth down Monday night, even though not everyone agreed with his decisions, especially when the offense went for it from their own 25. The two conversions led to a combined 10 crucial points.
Given how successful the Ravens have been 1 yard out, it should surprise nobody going forward when, not if, Harbaugh bets on his offense again on fourth down.
Takes guts to go 4th-and-1 from your own 25 w/3 backup linemen, but Ravens do it and Schaub gets the yard #RavensTalk
— Bo Smolka (@bsmolka) December 1, 2015 Clay Makes Impact Immediate Impact, Confuses Ravens Nation
I appreciate Jason La Canfora’s honesty.
After ![]()
I live in Baltimore and cover the NFL for a living and readily admit I had never heard of that cat before
— Jason La Canfora (@JasonLaCanfora) December 1, 2015 It’s understandable. This was just Clay’s second game with the Ravens, who picked up the rookie from the Detroit Lions’ practice squad. His first career touchdown came on his fourth career punt return.
Ryan Mink will have a story later today detailing exactly who Clay is, but you can bet he’ll be remembered by Ravens Nation going forward. After all, the Ravens have cycled through four punt returners this season, and they added Clay after Jeremy Ross fumbled twice in three games.
Clay showed off his speed (ran a 4.51-second 40 at the NFL Combine) while putting up the fifth-longest punt return in Ravens history.
