Michael Oher Responds To Contract Reports

Posted Oct 24, 2012

The Ravens have reportedly started 'preliminary discussions' about an extension.

Offensive tackle Michael Oher neither confirmed nor denied a Baltimore Sun report the he and the Ravens have entered preliminary contract extension talks.

Oher did say, however, that he’s hoping to be in a Ravens uniform for the long haul.

"I would love to spend a lot more time here in Baltimore,” Oher said on Wednesday. "If it can be over and get it done quickly, that would be great. It gets your mind off things, makes you feel more comfortable, stuff like that. I would love to spend more time here, finish here.”

The Ravens have a policy not to comment on negotiations.

Oher, 26, is currently under contract through the 2013 season.

The former first-round pick has started every game since coming into the NFL, bouncing between right and left tackle. He’s played left tackle this season, and could protect quarterback Joe Flacco’s blindside for years to come.

"Honestly it would mean a lot because they’re the ones that drafted me,” Oher said. "I feel like I owe them so much because I feel like they took a chance on me. To know that you’re one of the core guys, one of the guys they look at to be around for a while. It definitely makes you work harder and makes you want to give back even more."
