In his third practice since returning from a torn Achilles, the Ravens’ veteran outside linebacker picked off quarterback ![]()
During 11-on-11 work, Suggs diagnosed a quick pass and leapt into the lane to snare Flacco’s throw. In a game, Suggs could have gone for a pick-six. In practice, he celebrated by chucking the ball into the stands as a souvenir for the crowd.
The play made Head Coach John Harbaugh remark to safety Anthony Levine, “I guess he’s back.”
“That’s kind of his trademark interception, right?” Harbaugh said after practice. “He’s had a few of those. … We heard him before that. It was good to see him make a play like that though.”
Suggs’ return immediately brought a different energy and trash-talking to the defense, but he had yet to make any impact plays. Harbaugh didn’t see the football toss into the crowd.
“Did he?” Harbaugh said. “Sure, $50, he can afford it. It’s okay.”
The play is also a sign of the knowledge of the game that Suggs’ return brings to the defense. Tight end ![]()
“The guy steps on the field and he’s changing the game,” Gillmore said. “He’s making plays and being the guy we expect.”
Here are other notes from Wednesday's practice:
- Rookie wide receiver/returner
Keenan Reynolds hauled in a 70-yard bomb behind cornerback
Shareece Wright and safety
Lardarius Webb over the top. It was perfect timing and a beautiful throw by Flacco. It was Reynolds’ biggest play of camp.
- Wide receiver
Mike Wallace and cornerback
Jimmy Smith had a good back-and-forth battle all day long. Smith completely locked up Wallace in press coverage in one instance.
- Tight end
Darren Waller dominated in red-zone drills with two touchdowns. One came on a back-shoulder catch, and the other was an example of how the 6-foot-6 receiver can simply outmatch opponents with his size. Waller went high to grab the pass over Smith.
- Cornerback
Jerraud Powers continued his strong week of practice after the preseason opener. For the second straight day, he notched an interception, this time against backup quarterback
Ryan Mallett .
- Defensive tackle
Timmy Jernigan flashed his power when he shoved guard/center
Ryan Jensen to the side on one play and came free up the middle, forcing Flacco to frantically get rid of the ball.
- Safety
Eric Weddle showed his physicality by coming up to lay a solid pop on tight end
Nick Boyle and force an incompletion.
- Safety
Terrence Brooks notched yet another interception, this time after a pass was too high for the intended wide receiver.
