No Decision Yet On If Terrell Suggs Will Practice

Posted Oct 15, 2012

OLB Terrell Suggs and WR/RS David Reed are eligible to come off the PUP list this week.

Terrell Suggs is eligible to return to the field this week.

Whether the reigning Defensive Player of the Year will or not is still unresolved, however.

“We haven’t decided that yet,” Head Coach John Harbaugh said. “So, we’ll make that decision, obviously, by Wednesday, and we’ll just have to see where we’re at then and see how he is doing.”

Suggs has been on the physically unable to perform list for the required six weeks, and according to league rules, he can begin practicing Wednesday. But the Ravens won’t rush that decision because they have until Nov. 6 to take him off PUP.

Once Suggs is taken off PUP and practices for the first time, the Ravens have a 21-day window to either add him to the active 53-man roster or place him on injured reserve for the rest of the season.  Depending on his health and his first practice, Suggs could see game action as early as this week versus the Houston Texans or as late as the Week 12 contest against the San Diego Chargers.

Suggs is rehabilitating his injured Achilles tendon. Last week, Harbaugh left the door open for Suggs to possibly make a return in time to play Houston Sunday because he “looks pretty good right now.”

But as of last week, Harbaugh said Suggs wasn’t going through football workouts yet and that they won’t know if he can play in the game until they see him practice.

Harbaugh said the same applies for wide receiver and return specialist David Reed, who is also now eligible to come off the PUP list. Unlike Suggs, Reed doesn’t have an automatic roster spot waiting for him when he returns, so that could affect when he starts to practice.

“We will just have to see where he is at this week,” Harbaugh said. “Some of it has to do with the need that we have and that kind of thing, so we will just have to see where we are at.”
