No Timetable For Breshad Perriman's Return

Posted Aug 27, 2015

The Ravens rookie wide receiver has been out since the first day of training camp.

After Thursday’s practice, Head Coach John Harbaugh was asked the question all of Ravens Nation wants answered.

When is first-round rookie wide receiver Breshad Perriman coming back?

“I’m asking too,” Harbaugh said. “It’s just slower healing than [the doctors] expected. They really don’t have a timetable right now. That’s all I really have to say on that.”

At first, trainers told Harbaugh that Perriman would only miss a couple days with a bruised knee. He was hurt while making a leaping catch on July 30.

Now we’re nearing a month and Perriman doesn’t appear set to play in Saturday’s third preseason contest against the Washington Redskins. He hasn’t even suited up for practice since the injury.

Perriman had an MRI taken a couple weeks ago, which came back “essentially normal.” There was no additional damage and Harbaugh said there was just a little swelling indicative of a sprain, which is damage to the tendon.

On Aug. 15, Harbaugh said Perriman would be back sometime during training camp, which has officially ended. The Ravens are now 17 days away from their regular-season opener in Denver.

“It’s disappointing but that’s the name of the game, that’s football,” said quarterback Joe Flacco. “You have to deal with injuries. I think he’s doing a great job dealing with his and trying to get back out here, but it takes time.

“I wish we had him out here. I think he’s an awesome talent, he’s going to help us out a lot, but he’s not going to help us out if he can’t run.”

Flacco said that at this point, Perriman will have work to do just to get back in shape since he’s missed so much time. Then there’s the chemistry with Flacco that Perriman has missed building. The two had a good rapport before the injury.

“We’ve been going at it for a long time now and we have a good mix of guys in there,” Flacco said. “When you’re dealing with guys that are pretty talented, it doesn’t take a ton of time to get in sync with each other, but obviously you’d like to have as much time as you can.”
