North Carroll's Matt Martello Named Ravens High School Coach of the Week

Posted Sep 18, 2013

Matt Martello, head coach of the North Carroll (Hampstead, Md.) varsity football team, has been named the Ravens High School Coach of the Week. Now in its 17th year, Martello is the second recipient of the award in 2013.

Last Thursday (9/12), after trailing Williamsport by 10 in the fourth quarter, the North Carroll Panthers staged a dramatic come-from-behind victory, edging the Wildcats 40-38. Despite allowing 38 points on the night, the defense came up big when needed and held Williamsport scoreless in the contest’s final frame. Spurred on offense by RB Sean Floto (22 carries, 192 rushing yards, and two touchdowns), the Panthers tallied the go-ahead score with a 24-yard touchdown run by Floto with just two minutes remaining.

By advancing to 2-0 on the season, North Carroll has already surpassed their win total from 2012 (1-10) and equaled their 2011 mark (2-8). “Our relentless defense and execution on offense has been the key to our great start,” said Martello, who earned his first Ravens High School Coach of the Week honor. “The kids are excited when they come to practice every day and that shows up in the level of their play.”

The Panthers will look to remain unbeaten when they travel to Smithsburg this Friday (9/20).

Each week during the season, the Ravens will honor a high school coach who has made a significant impact on his student-athletes. Each winner will be present at the Ravens-Vikings home game on Dec. 8 for the naming of the Ravens High School Coach of the Year.

Each weekly recipient receives:

  • A $2,000 donation to the school’s football program
  • An award certificate signed by Ravens head coach John Harbaugh
  • A specially-designed Coach of the Week hat
