O-Line Taking Notice Of Jabaal Sheard

Posted Nov 3, 2012

Browns DE Jabaal Sheard has logged two sacks in three career games against Baltimore.

The Browns’ Jabaal Sheard isn’t a player talked about much nationally.

But in Baltimore’s locker room, the second-year defensive end is definitely on the radar.

Sheard has been a thorn in the Ravens’ side since joining the Browns defensive line, and the movement he and Cleveland’s defensive line utilizes can cause trouble for Baltimore’s offensive line.

“He has good speed, has good power and he knows how to play football,” tackle Michael Oher said. “He knows how to get to the ball, he knows how to beat an opponent. The things he does best, he does really well.”

The second-round pick out of Pittsburgh is known for being a high-motor player. Right guard Marshal Yanda said he also has a very good inside rip move.

Sheard has faced the Ravens three times. In two of those games, he was a complete menace.

When Baltimore traveled to Cleveland last year, Sheard posted nine tackles, one sack, one pass deflection and a forced fumble.

When Sheard came to M&T Bank Stadium in Week 4 this season, he logged six tackles, one sack and two tackles for loss. The Browns had four sacks in total, tied for the most the Ravens have given up in a game this season.

Rookie tackle Kelechi Osemele said the main issue in the earlier meeting this year was that the Browns did a lot of movement. After watching tape, Osemele said they “move a lot more” now.

The Ravens will have to do a good job picking up the Browns’ pre-snap movement and adjusting to what they see after the snap, but the linemen said dealing with it is not more difficult on the road than at home.

“During the week you work on it so much that it kind of becomes memory and you kind of come to expect it,” Osemele said.

“I think if you know it, it shouldn’t be a problem,” Oher added.
