OTA News & Notes From Ravens' Second Week of OTAs

Posted Jun 1, 2017

Reserve defensive back Maurice Canady had a big day with three interceptions, wide receiver Breshad Perriman kept up his hot start and running back Danny Woodhead was a frequent target.

The Ravens got a beautiful day for Thursday’s open practice during the second week of Organized Team Activities (OTAs), but it took a dark turn when cornerback Tavon Young suffered a torn ACL.

Outside of Young's injury, here are other news and notes from Thursday’s practice:
  • After Young went down, the depth of the Ravens’ secondary was on full display. Second-year cornerback Maurice Canady notched three interceptions. His first was a beautiful leaping catch down the sideline on a deep pass. On his second, he broke well on the ball and stepped in front of a comeback route in 11-on-11 drills. His third came on a ball that tipped off wide receiver Chris Moore’s hand. Canady, who spent much of last year on injured reserve, stepped into the nickel role after Young went down.
  • Young reserve cornerback Sheldon Price also notched a pick while working with the second-team defense, though he left practice early to have his head evaluated.
  • John Urschel stepped in as the center with the first-team offense. He and Ryan Jensen are rotating between center and right guard with Marshal Yanda (shoulder) out. It’s a good competition.
  • Wide receiver Breshad Perriman continued his streak of strong practices. He made a long catch early on in practice, then blew by Humphrey in the final 11-on-11 drills of the day for what would have been a quick, long touchdown.
  • Running back Danny Woodhead had a strong day and was frequently targeted by Flacco. Woodhead hauled in a one-handed catch early, and showed his quickness and elusiveness throughout practice. He’ll be used in a variety of ways.
  • Kamalei Correa had a nice read on one play and burst into the backfield for what would’ve been a big tackle for loss on an outside run with Kenneth Dixon. Second-year linebacker Matthew Judon is also all over the field, and made a nice read on a dump-off pass to Woodhead.
  • Second-year running back Kenneth Dixon continues to impress with his quickness.
  • Defensive tackle Carl Davis (pectoral) and safety Lardarius Webb (personal) also missed practice.
