RB Bobby Rainey Added To Practice Squad

Posted Sep 11, 2012

The undrafted running back was brought back a day after being waived.

A day after the Ravens waived him, rookie running back Bobby Rainey is back on the team.

Rainey tweeted on Tuesday that he’s back with the team and the Ravens announced Wednesday that he was signed to the practice squad.

"Thanks for the txt, phone calls, FB messages, & tweets everyone! God got me so I'm fine! I'm still with the #Ravens everyone! Thanks again,” Rainey tweeted.

He was cut on Monday to make room for second-year running back Anthony Allen on the 53-man roster. Allen, last year’s seventh-round pick, was re-signed because of the role he plays on special teams. The Ravens activated Allen Monday night.

After the win over Cincinnati, Head Coach John Harbaugh hinted that the Ravens would bring back Rainey by saying that he’s still in the team’s future.

"Bobby Rainey is a big part of our plans,” Harbaugh said. "I texted Bobby before the game. He is, rightly so, kind of upset about it. Bobby is a guy that I cherish. We just did it for special teams reasons, pure and simple. Anthony Allen has done a great job on special teams, and we made a strategic roster move we hope works out for us.”

Rainey was one of the surprises of the preseason. He finished the preseason with 55 rushing yards on 23 carries, and added 14 receptions for 163 yards and two touchdowns.
