The Ravens broke Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown’s streak but Pittsburgh’s other playmaker ended one of Baltimore’s runs as well.

Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell rushed 22 times for 129 yards and a touchdown, ending Baltimore’s 29-game streak of not allowing an opposing tailback to top 100 yards.

It took Bell until overtime to complete the feat, but it still counts. Baltimore’s streak was the longest active mark in the NFL with the Falcons and Eagles next in line at 15 games.

“We definitely didn’t want him to get over that. We don’t want any running back to get over 100 yards,” rookie defensive tackle Carl Davis said. “That’s something I could tell they’ve been holding onto for a long time. We’ve just got to create another streak now.”

The Ravens had a 39-game streak from 2006 to 2009, so they’ve built themselves back up before.

For many of Bell’s touches, the Ravens did a good job of bottling him up. They stopped him for 2 yards or less nine times and 3 yards or less 13 times.

It was a few big gains that blew up the numbers, in part because of poor tackling on the outside. Bell had one run outside and shed linebacker C.J. Mosley to pick up 22 yards in overtime. He had another rumble for 21 yards late in the fourth quarter.

“You knew he was going to get his yards. He’s going to make his plays,” Davis said.

“He’s a different type of running back and he’s more of a threat because he waits for the hole to open and he’s more patient. He’s not quick to hit it and has great vision. We just tried to make sure we stayed in our gaps and as soon as he hit the gap, hit him when we could.”

Even though Bell had a big game, some Ravens defenders had standout individual performances.

Davis got the start over Timmy Jerngian and played a regular-season high 35 snaps. Veteran inside linebacker Daryl Smith made a game-high 13 tackles, including one sack and another tackle for loss. Elvis Dumervil notched another sack and six tackles.

The Ravens’ highest-graded defender, per Pro Football Focus, was defensive tackle Brandon Williams, who got a plus-3.2 four days after an absolutely dominant plus-6.7 performance against the Bengals.

It looks like opponents are going to have a tough time running up the middle on the Ravens all season long, and with new blossoming anchors such as Williams, Davis and C.J. Mosley, Baltimore could very well start another long streak.

“Brandon, he can take over a game at nose tackle, and that’s very rare,” Davis said. “He’s very talented and strong and good at what he does. He’s also a positive leader amongst the defensive line.”
