Ravens DE Brent Urban Moved To Active Roster

Posted Nov 25, 2015

The second-year defensive end can suit up Sunday against the Browns for his first NFL game.

Second-year defensive end Brent Urban will be moved from the injured reserve – designated for return list to the active 53-man roster.

Wednesday was decision day as Urban either had to be activated or placed on season-ending injured reserve by 4 p.m.

The move means Urban can suit up Monday night against the Cleveland Browns, but that's not a certainty. While Urban is eligible to play, he may not be quite ready, and could be inactive.

“Brent is going to come up," Head Coach John Harbaugh said. "Whether he’ll be active or not, and play in the game, we’ll have to figure that out."

Urban tore his biceps on Aug. 6, and had surgery soon after. So he's had about three-and-a-half months to recover.

It would be Urban's first NFL game of any kind. The 2014 fourth-round pick out of Virginia tore his ACL early in training camp during his rookie season, then tore his biceps muscle on Aug. 6 in the first week of camp this year.

Urban hasn’t played in a football game in nearly two years. His senior year at Virginia was cut short by an ankle injury. The last time he suited up was Nov. 30, 2013 against Virginia Tech.

The Ravens chose not to shut down Urban for the entire season because of his immense talent, which should be on display Monday.

The 6-foot-7, 295-pound mauler has heavy hands and will immediately make it more difficult for opponents to throw quick slant passes and drags across the middle. He should also get good push from the edges of the defensive line.

"He’s done a really good job. He’s worked hard. He looks good," Harbaugh said. "It’s going to be exciting to see him in real action at some point in time to see how he does because he hasn’t played that much. He’s practiced very well.”
