Ravens Have No Timetable On Breshad Perriman's Return, But He's Running

Posted Aug 16, 2016

The second-year wide receiver is dealing with another knee injury that was expected to sideline him until mid-August, but he has yet to come off the PUP list.

The timetable for Breshad Perriman’s return to the field is still up in the air.

After missing his entire rookie season with a lingering knee injury, the second-year receiver has been sidelined since June 11 with another knee problem. Perriman reportedly suffered a partially torn ACL in Organized Team Activities, and he received a stem cell injection eight weeks ago to help jump-start his recovery.

The Ravens expected Perriman to be back in mid-August after the injection, but Head Coach John Harbaugh explained Tuesday that he’s received no word on when the receiver will return.

“I wish I did [have an update],” Harbaugh said. “We had talked about this being the time frame, right about now, mid-August, when he would be back. That was the date that I was given back in June.”

Harbaugh has previously said he expects Perriman back by Week 1, but he did not specify whether that is still the case.

“He’s on the ground running right now, but I haven’t been told that he’s going to be back to practice, tomorrow,” Harbaugh said. “I’m just like the fans. I’m waiting for him to get back out there, and when he’s ready he’ll be back out there.”

Perriman is currently on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list, and the Ravens have the option to keep him on PUP going into the regular season. If they decided to go that route, Perriman would be out for at least the first six games.

Missing practice time and preseason snaps is significant for Perriman, who has yet to go through an entire training camp practice. He has caught passes from quarterback Joe Flacco in 14 months, and the two of them need time on the field together to develop chemistry.

“It’s tough for me to really worry about right now because we have so many other guys that we have to worry about getting better and getting on top of everything,” Flacco said. “I haven’t really spent a ton of time with him on the football field, really just last offseason, so it would be nice to get him out here at some point. But at the same time, you can’t bring him back too early.”
