Ravens Haven't Lost Following Bye Under John Harbaugh

Posted Oct 28, 2013

The Ravens will try to duplicate last year, when they went into the bye with a loss and then beat Browns.

All teams say they get to work during the bye trying to improve.

But not all teams make improvements like the Ravens, and Head Coach John Harbaugh has the track record to prove it.

Under Harbaugh, the Ravens are a perfect 5-0 following the bye. Since 2002, Baltimore is 10-1 following the bye, the best mark in the NFL. The Ravens will try to extend that streak this Sunday in Cleveland.

The Ravens practiced the maximum allowed under the Collective Bargaining Agreement last week, and were back to work Monday following a four-day weekend.

Harbaugh didn’t reveal the bye-week plans for coaches. They got some time off, but likely put in extra time while the office was closed trying to right the ship after the Ravens lost three of their last four games.

“I really believe in where we’re going schematically,” Harbaugh said before the break.

“I think we understand how to solve problems. And that’s what football is – it’s a problem-solving business. There always are problems – everybody has them. And I’m very confident in our ability to solve problems, and I know we’ve got the people to do it.”

The Ravens have a history of fixing things during the bye.

Last year, Baltimore went into the break fresh off a 43-13 loss to the Houston Texans. They responded with a 25-15 win in Cleveland.

In 2011, the Ravens came out of the bye with a big home win over Houston. In 2010, they defeated Miami after the break. In 2009, they beat Denver, halting a three-game slide. In 2008, Baltimore had its bye in Week 2 because a hurricane postponed their game. They beat the Browns in Week 3.
