Ravens Looking Into Colts' Taunting

Posted Jan 7, 2013

A Colts staff member said something inappropriate to safety Bernard Pollard.

The Ravens are looking into an incident on the Colts bench in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game.

Safety Bernard Pollard went to the Indianapolis sideline after a member of the Colts staff said something to him following an incompletion.

However, it was Pollard that was penalized 15 yards for taunting, and was pulled from the game by Head Coach John Harbaugh.

“That’s something that we are looking into. Apparently, there was something that was said,” Harbaugh said.

“Obviously, you don’t go back into their bench, Bernard said that already. He knows that. You don’t respond. But there were some things, apparently, that were said that were out of line.”

It’s unclear who the Colts staff member is or what he said. Pollard said it was a rookie coach, but the person was standing on the sideline holding a towel and a water bottle.

“You gotta watch what you say,” Pollard said after the game. “You gotta respect people. You gotta understand that you’re dealing with me; you’re not dealing with no little boys.”

Just two plays earlier, Pollard was penalized for an illegal hit on wide receiver Reggie Wayne. Pollard led with his shoulder, but still hit Wayne high and their two heads collided.

Harbaugh said the flag for Pollard’s hit was a “good call.”

“You just have to get the strike zone down,” Harbaugh said.

“What’s happening is you take the strike zone into this area, this low chest area, and you think you’re going to be legal, then all of the sudden the helmet is in that area, so the only answer is to go lower, and that’s what we’re going to have to do.”

Harbaugh was asked whether asking for players to hit lower is a recipe for more knee injuries, but the coach said he’d rather leave that conversation for another time.
