Ravens Re-Sign Cornerback Chris Johnson

Posted Mar 14, 2013

The veteran defender will be back in Baltimore after getting picked up midway through last season.

Chris Johnson will be back in Baltimore next season.

The Ravens announced Thursday that they re-signed the veteran cornerback, who was previously an unrestricted free agent. Johnson was signed to a one-year deal.

Johnson will return to the Ravens after the team signed him midway through last season to provide depth to the injury-riddled secondary.  He was signed in Week 11 after cornerback Jimmy Smith went down with a sports hernia injury and Lardarius Webb was already done for the season because of a torn ACL.

Johnson, 33, played against the Steelers just a few  days after getting signed and he forced a fumble in that 13-10 victory.

The 10-year veteran dealt with a thigh injury after that game and ended up playing just four games the entire season. He finished the year with seven total tackles and a forced fumble, and was primarily a special teams player.

He will provide depth in the secondary and will likely compete with Chykie Brown and Asa Jackson for reps at corner behind Webb, Smith and Corey Graham.
