Ravens Re-Sign James Ihedigbo For One Year

Posted Mar 12, 2013

The veteran safety could be an option if free-agent safety Ed Reed doesn’t return.

The Ravens have re-signed James Ihedigbo to a one-year contract, the safety confirmed via Twitter Tuesday afternoon.

“Standup... The GraveDigger is back for another year!!!! Excited to be back love my Bmore Family!!#Salute,” Ihedigbo tweeted.

Ihedigbo, 29, played in all 16 games for the Ravens last year and started three when strong safety Bernard Pollard was out due to a chest injury. He recorded 19 tackles and one sack, as well as six solo special teams stops.

The sixth-year player could be a possibility to fill in for safety Ed Reed if he leaves via free agency. Ihedigbo can play both strong and free safety.

Even if Reed does return, Ihedigbo provides quality depth in the secondary and a strong special teams presence. The deeply faithful Ihedigbo also fits in well with the Ravens locker room.
