Ravens Re-Sign Long Snaper Morgan Cox, Offensive Lineman Ramon Harewood

Posted Mar 12, 2013

The fourth-year special teamer agreed to a new contract rather than become a free agent.

Long snapper Morgan Cox has agreed to a new two-year contract with the Ravens, the team has announced.

The fourth-year long snapper reached the deal Tuesday before hitting the open market as a free agent when the new league season begins at 4 p.m. The Ravens reached a new deal with Cox rather than assign him a tender as a restricted free agent.

The financial details of the contract were not disclosed.

In addition to re-signing Cox, the Ravens also reportedly reached a one-year deal with offensive lineman Ramon Harewood, according to Aaron Wilson of The Baltimore Sun. Harewood was also schedule to become a restricted free agent.

Harewood confirmed the news with a celebratory tweet: "Glad to be still in the charm city! #ravens #RavenNation ... 2013 let's get it"

Harewood opened the season as the team’s starting left guard and started the first five games of the season. He ended up getting replaced in the starting lineup and was active for just one more game the rest of the season.

The former sixth-round pick came to the Ravens as a project out of Barbados, and he has the ability to play either guard  or tackle.

Cox joined the Ravens as an undrafted free agent out of Tennessee in 2010 and has been the team’s long snapper since then. He’s been a reliable special teamer for the Ravens, and was also selected as the 2011 Ed Block Courage Award winner after playing nearly an entire game with a torn ACL at the end of his rookie season.

Cox played in all 16 games last season, had two special teams tackles while snapping on 83 punts, 42 PATs and 33 field goals.
