Ravens Reach Record Number Of Players On Injured Reserve In John Harbaugh Era

Posted Dec 29, 2015

WR Marlon Brown (back) was placed on IR and DB Sheldon Price was brought up from the practice squad.

The Ravens have now reached a new (unwanted) record.

With wide receiver Marlon Brown being placed on injured reserve (IR) Tuesday afternoon, Baltimore now has 20 players on the list.

That’s a new Ravens’ high during Head Coach John Harbaugh’s eight-year tenure. The Ravens had 19 players land on IR in 2008 and 2014. The team does not have records immediately available that pre-date that time.

This year’s total doesn’t including tight end Dennis Pitta (hip), who remained on the reserve/physically unable to perform list for the entire season. It also doesn’t include outside linebacker Zach Thompson (shoulder), who was placed on IR earlier this season, but reached an injury settlement with the Ravens and was released.

Here’s the Ravens’ full injured reserve list:

The Ravens’ list includes eight Week 1 starters, including six on offense. It’s no wonder Harbaugh was so pleased coming out of the 20-17 Steelers win without any injury.

“There’s good news and good news,” Harbaugh said Monday. “We won the game and nobody’s getting an MRI today. First time that’s happened all year.”

Harbaugh had already ruled out Brown for the remainder of the year. Brown hadn’t played since Week 10 against the Jaguars and finished the year with 14 catches for 112 yards and no touchdowns.

Harbaugh said it was up to General Manager Ozzie Newsome to officially move Brown to IR, but he needed a corresponding roster move. Newsome found one Tuesday, promoting defensive back Sheldon Price from the practice squad.

The 6-foot-2, 198-pound Price is in his third NFL season. The former undrafted rookie out of UCLA originally signed with Indianapolis and spent most of his first two seasons on the Colts practice squad.

Price made the 53-man roster this year and played in two games, making one tackle, but was waived/injured after sustaining an ankle injury. The Ravens signed Price to the practice squad on Oct. 20.
