The Ravens recently received some good news come their way regarding the status of injured tight end 
The starter had surgeries to repair torn labrums in both shoulders this offseason, and the injuries put his status in question for the start of training camp in late July.
But General Manager Ozzie Newsome is optimistic that Gillmore will be ready to play by the start of the season.
“We got positive news last week, but he still has a recovery road to go down in order to get himself ready for the beginning of the year,” General Manager Ozzie Newsome said Thursday. “But I feel very good, barring any setbacks.”
Newsome’s comments came at the introductory press conference for veteran tight end
Gillmore, 24, played through a variety of ailments for much of last season before a back injury finally landed him on injured reserve on Dec. 21. In his first year as a starter, the bruising tight end showed his potential by catching 33 passes for 412 yards and four touchdowns.
If Gillmore does end up fully recovered and ready to play at the start of the season, the Ravens will have stiff competition for snaps between him, Watson and last year’s second-round pick
