Ravens Rookie Tim White's Season Ends Just When It Was Heating up

Posted Aug 11, 2017

The undrafted rookie wide receiver suffered a thumb injury in Thursday night’s preseason opener and will undergo surgery that is expected to end his season

Just when Tim White’s rookie season was starting to take off, it came to an end.

The undrafted rookie wide receiver, who has been one of the offense’s biggest playmakers early in training camp, suffered a thumb injury in Thursday night’s preseason opener against the Washington Redskins.

The injury will require surgery, which is expected to sideline White for the entire season.

It’s a tough pill to swallow, especially just after White had a strong debut in his first NFL game.

White’s first catch was a twisting 33-yard touchdown snag in which he quickly got behind the Redskins defender. He also was used on a jet sweep that he took for an 8-yard gain.

The 5-fooot-10, 181-pound Arizona State product was also the first player used as a punt returner. He was later followed by Keenan Reynolds, who notched a 46-yard return.

“That was a surreal feeling, just running out and seeing all the fans and everything that was going on,” White said after the game.

“It’s all about consistency. It’s showing what you can do in practice, and then translating that into the games when it counts. I just want to go out there and be as consistent as possible and make the plays when I’m able to.”

Now, that will likely have to wait another year.

The Ravens have also been pleased with the progress of undrafted rookie wide receiver Quincy Adeboyejo, as well as contributions from Reynolds, Michael Campanaro and others. Baltimore has a lot of depth at the position.
