Ravens Sign LB Daryl Smith

Posted Jun 5, 2013

The Baltimore Ravens have signed free agent LB Daryl Smith to a one-year contract, general manager and executive vice president Ozzie Newsome announced Wednesday evening.

Having played nine NFL seasons – all with the Jacksonville Jaguars – Smith, 31, has seen action in 126 career games, making 124 starts. During the 2012 campaign, he missed the Jaguars’ first 14 games while recovering from a sports hernia injury and then started the season’s final two contests.

The 6-2, 248-pound Smith has posted a Jacksonville franchise-record 1,090 tackles (726 solo), 21.5 sacks (-134 yards), six interceptions (returned 47 yards), nine forced fumbles and five fumble recoveries during his pro career.

He has started at both outside and middle linebacker, with 103 starts at OLB and 21 at MLB. In seven-straight seasons (2005-11), Smith recorded at least 100 tackles, registering a career-high 109 stops (47 solo) in 2010.

Originally selected out of Georgia Tech in the second round (39th overall) of the 2004 NFL Draft, Smith also set a Jaguars’ single-season record in 2011 with 15 tackles for loss.

To make room on their 90-man offseason roster, the Ravens waived third-year OLB Michael McAdoo Wednesday.
