Ravens Sign Six Players to Reserve/Futures Contracts

Posted Jan 1, 2018

The Ravens have re-signed quarterback Josh Woodrum and running back Ricky Ortiz as they start building their 2018 roster.

The Ravens have gone right to work filling out their 2018 roster.

The team signed quarterback Josh Woodrum, running backs Ricky Ortiz and John Crockett, defensive backs Robertson Daniel and Bennett Jackson, and offensive tackle Steven Moore to reserve/futures contracts. All of those players were on Baltimore’s practice squad at the end of the season.

Woodrum is perhaps the most intriguing move, as he impressed during the preseason. He completed 69 percent of his passes for 321 yards with a pair of touchdowns and no interceptions. He also carried the ball 16 times for 42 yards and two more touchdowns.

The Cleveland Browns initially signed Woodrum to their active roster, but released him after the first week of the regular season. He then returned to Baltimore and spent the entire year on the practice squad.

The Ravens will  have an open spot at backup quarterback because Ryan Mallett is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent in March, and Woodrum could compete for that job.

Moore and Ortiz were both undrafted free agents this year. Crockett was initially signed as an undrafted free agent by the Green Bay Packers in 2015 before the Ravens added him this year.
