Ravens Sign Two Tight Ends

Posted Dec 8, 2015

After Nick Boyle was suspended, the team added Konrad Reuland and Richard Gordon to the 53-man roster.

The Ravens have bulked up at tight end.

The team has promoted Konrad Reuland from the practice squad to the 53-man roster and also signed free agent Richard Gordon.

The moves came after rookie Nick Boyle was suspended for the rest of the season for violating the NFL’s policy on performance enhancing drugs, and with Crockett Gillmore (back) and Maxx Williams (concussion) both battling injuries. The Ravens cut cornerback Cassius Vaughn to make room for the tight ends on the roster.

In addition to signing the tight ends to the active squad, the Ravens also added tight end Harold Spears to the practice squad. Spears had a brief stint with the Seattle Seahawks, who Baltimore will face this Sunday at M&T Bank Stadium.

Gordon, 28, is a five-year veteran who was cut by the Denver Broncos earlier this week. Gordon spent the previous six weeks in Denver and played in just one game. The time in Denver working in Gary Kubiak’s system was likely part of the attraction in bringing Gordon to Baltimore because the Ravens run the same fundamental offense.

Gordon is primarily a blocking tight end, and he has four catches for 14 yards and a touchdown in his NFL career. The Ravens will be his sixth team, as he has also played for the Chiefs, Titans, Steelers and Raiders.

Reuland, 28, has been off and on the Ravens practice squad the last two years.

“He has been practicing with us pretty much all year – knows what we are doing – and he can play the position,” Head Coach John Harbaugh.

Reuland hasn’t played in a game since 2013 with the New York Jets. He has played in 17 games in his career, catching 12 passes for 90 yards.

Adding Reuland and Gordon gives the Ravens depth if Williams or Gillmore can’t play, but the Ravens are optimistic that both will return this week against Seattle.

“I think Maxx and Crockett both have a really good chance to play,” Harbaugh said. “We’ll see how that goes.”
