Ravens To Face Patriots In AFC Championship Rematch

Posted Jan 13, 2013

The Ravens will travel to Foxborough for the AFC championship Sunday at 6:30 p.m.

The Ravens will get a shot at redemption.

Baltimore will return to Foxborough to take on the Patriots next Sunday at 6:30 p.m. in a rematch of last year’s AFC championship game.

The Patriots took down the Houston Texans 41-28 at Gillette Stadium Sunday, setting up the Ravens-Patriots AFC title game.

“We fought hard to get back to this point,” quarterback Joe Flacco said Saturday after beating Denver. “We are definitely proud of being here, and we feel like it is going to take a lot for someone to come and kick us off that field come the AFC championship game.”

This will be the first time the Ravens have returned to Gillette Stadium since leaving there with a heartbreaking loss to end last season. The Patriots won that game, 23-20, after wide receiver Lee Evans let a game-winning touchdown pass slip out of his hands and kicker Billy Cundiff missed a game-tying field goal attempt at the end of the game.

The memory of that loss stuck with the Ravens, and even Owner Steve Bisciotti said going into the offseason that he wasn’t over the loss.

This will be a chance for the Ravens to advance to the Super Bowl for the first time since winning it all in 2000.

“We are going to give it our all and we know what it felt like last year,” Flacco said. “We walked off that field without that win. We know what we’ve put in to get back to this point. It is going to be a great game.”

The Ravens beat the Patriots 31-30 in Baltimore in Week 3 this year. Rookie Justin Tucker kicked a game-winning field goal as time expired, and Flacco threw for 382 yards and three touchdowns in the win. Running back Ray Rice also had 20 carries for 101 yards and a touchdown.
