Ravens Trade For Cornerback Will Davis

Baltimore acquired the third-year defensive back for a 2016 seventh-round draft pick.


The Ravens traded for cornerback Will Davis, bolstering their secondary after a rough day in Oakland.

Baltimore traded a seventh-round pick in the 2016 draft for Davis, who did not play for the Dolphins in the first two weeks this season. The Ravens gained an undisclosed draft selection next year after trading undrafted offensive lineman Nick Easton to the San Francisco 49ers earlier this month.

Davis, 25, is a 5-foot-11, 190-pound Utah State product who was a third-round pick in 2013. He has played in 15 games and notched 25 tackles and three passes defensed. He is 10 months removed from having surgery to repair a torn ACL.

The Ravens secondary gave up 351 passing yards and three touchdowns to Oakland quarterback Derek Carr in Sunday’s 37-33 loss. Both Raiders wide receivers Michael Crabtree and rookie Amari Cooper topped 100 yards receiving.

Baltimore has been a bit shorthanded in the secondary without cornerback Rashaan Melvin (thigh), who has missed both of the first two games. Developmental rookie Tray Walker hasn’t seen any defensive snaps yet. The Ravens had to convert safety Terrence Brooks as to the nickel cornerback position when Lardarius Webb sat for a couple plays Sunday.

The Ravens now have five cornerbacks on the active roster: Jimmy Smith, Lardarius Webb, Kyle Arrington, Tray Walker, Melvin and Davis.
