Ravens Trim 2015 Roster To 53 Players

Posted Sep 5, 2015

Returner Asa Jackson, lineman Jah Reid and wide receiver Jeremy Butler are also among the cuts.

The Ravens have their 53-man roster.

The front office had a busy Saturday afternoon where it cut 15 players, placed one on injured reserve and traded another. General Manager Ozzie Newsome made 22 moves over the last two days to set his roster by Saturday’s 4 p.m. deadline.

The Ravens released the following players Saturday:

-          CB Asa Jackson

-          OL Jah Reid

-          WR Jeremy Butler

-          OG Robert Myers

-          CB Cassius Vaughn

-          OLB Brennen Beyer

-          OG Kaleb Johnson

-          RB Terrence Magee

-          RB Fitzgerald Toussaint

-          FB Kiero Small

-          TE Konrad Reuland

-          QB Bryn Renner

-          S Nick Perry

-          DE DeAngelo Tyson (waived-injured)

-          DT Micajah Reynolds (waived-injured)

The team also placed undrafted rookie outside linebacker Zach Thompson on injured reserve.

The moves were on top of the five cuts the Ravens made yesterday, along with trading reserve center Nick Easton for an undisclosed draft pick to the San Francisco 49ers Saturday afternoon.

Among the most notable cuts are Jackson, Myers and Butler.

Jackson was in competition for the starting kick and punt return jobs, but he hurt his stock by fumbling punts in back-to-back games. The 2012 fifth-round pick started six games last season because of injuries, but the Ravens elevated the competition in the secondary this offseason with the arrival of several new additions. When he didn’t win the returner job, the team decided to part ways with him.

Myers is somewhat of a surprise because he’s a rookie fifth-round draft pick. He struggled during the preseason however, and he could land back on the practice squad because he’s a relatively unknown prospect out of Tennessee State.

Butler spent last year on injured reserve, but he shined this offseason when he got back on the field. He flashed with big plays at times during training camp, but struggled to carry that consistency into the games. He finished the preseason with 10 catches for 76 yards and a touchdown.
