Ravens Visiting White House Wednesday

Posted May 31, 2013

President Barack Obama will address the team and talk about its community service.

The Ravens will meet President Barack Obama on Wednesday, June 5.

The president has a tradition of welcoming sports champions to the White House, to both acknowledge their achievement and their efforts to give back to communities.

Video of the full event will be live streamed next Wednesday on BaltimoreRavens.com, in the official Ravens mobile app and on m.baltimoreravens.com.

Fans can also follow #RavensAtTheWH on Twitter and Instagram for updates throughout Wednesday morning.

Head Coach John Harbaugh already met Obama at a Gridiron Dinner in March. Harbaugh and General Manager Ozzie Newsome received a phone call from the President two days after beating the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl XLVII.

“I just want to say congratulations,” Obama said then. “I know it was a bumpy season up and down. For you guys to stay steady the way you did is really a great feat.”

Obama also mentioned how he was moved by the story of Ravens Senior Advisor to Player Development and former player O.J. Brigance, who has valiantly fought against ALS and inspired the team.

A visit to the White House has long been part of winning the Super Bowl. The Ravens made the trip in 2001, and presented President George W. Bush with a signed football and jersey with the letter "W" on the back.
