Ravens and Redskins to Host License Plate Distribution

Posted Aug 6, 2009

Two teams will join forces to promote license plate programs Aug. 12.

The Baltimore Ravens and Washington Redskins will join forces on Wednesday, Aug. 12, at the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration headquarters in Glen Burnie, Md, to promote both teams’ Maryland License Plate Programs. A portion of the one-time $55 plate fee for either team’s plate will go to the Ravens All Community Team Foundation or the Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation.

The event falls a day before the two teams square off at M&T Bank Stadium for their 2009 preseason opener. Ravens and Redskins fans can take full advantage of the license plates distribution, as fans will be able to skip the normal 8-12 week application process and receive plates on the spot. Three hundred license plates for both teams will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis from 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. In addition, Ravens and Redskins cheerleaders will be on site to help celebrate this special event.

The Ravens are in their third year of selling the license plates, raising over $150,000 for the Ravens All Community Team Foundation. Over 4,000 plates have been sold to date. In the three months since the Redskins started their Redskins MD license plates program, roughly 300 Redskins plates have been sold. The Redskins MD license plates program will offer a limited supply of plates numbered 0001 through 0100, celebrating various Redskins players’ numbers, which will be auctioned off throughout the next three seasons. The Redskins MD license plates program is modeled after the successful Redskins VA license plates program which, since 2004, has brought in over $350,000 for the Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation’s youth-focused programs.

“It’s a thrill to see our fans display their enthusiasm for the team in this unique way,” Ravens president Dick Cass said. “This is a great opportunity to partner with our friends down I-95 and raise good money for our charitable outreach. The event should also breed additional excitement for the preseason opener.”

“It’s good to see two great organizations coming together to benefit their communities,” said Redskins COO Mitch Gershman. “This off-the-field event is a great way for fans to show their support for their team and to get psyched for the game!

MVA Administrator John Kuo added, “Through the years, the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration has helped numerous Maryland nonprofit organizations raise money for their worthy causes. We are delighted to assist the charitable foundations of the Baltimore Ravens and the Washington Redskins with their fundraising efforts through MVA's Organization Plate program.”

Note: Fans must submit the two fees in separate payments at this event: $25 MVA fee and a $30 tax-deductible gift to either the Ravens All Community Team Foundation or the Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation. Cash, credit or check will be accepted.
