Ray Lewis Not Activated

Posted Dec 22, 2012

Ray Lewis will miss a ninth straight game after tearing his biceps.

The Ravens didn't activate Ray Lewis by Saturday's 4 p.m. deadline, meaning the heart of Baltimore's defense will not play in Sunday's game versus the New York Giants.

There was hope that Lewis would be ready to play after three weeks of practice. He told BaltimoreRavens.com that "As soon as they open the door, I’m walking through it."

But Lewis apparently isn't ready yet.

He has been out since Oct. 14 with a torn biceps, and will now miss a ninth straight game.

The emotional impact of a potential Lewis return was called "huge" by outside linebacker Paul Kruger, but that will have to wait at least one more week.

The Ravens were also hoping to simply boost their numbers at linebacker, yet they may get help regardless as Dannell Ellerbe (ankle) is questionable to play Sunday. Baltimore also brought up outside linebacker Adrian Hamilton from the practice squad.

Albert McClellan, Josh Bynes and Brendon Ayanbadejo are still the team's only healthy inside linebackers. McClellan can play both inside and out. Bynes led the team with 13 tackles last week against Denver.
