Veteran left tackle Jake Long won’t be a Raven after all, according to reports.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Long declined to sign an injury waiver with the Ravens Friday, instead opting to remain a free agent.
After the two sides agreed to terms, the deal got hung up on Long’s physical. He tore the ACL in the same knee in back-to-back seasons (2013-14), and was limited to four games last year in Atlanta.
Before signing with the Ravens, Long visited Dr. James Andrews to get another opinion on the knee. Per Schefter, Long was “enthused by Andrews’ review” but was still required to sign an injury waiver by the Ravens, which he declined to do.
An injury waiver would protect Baltimore financially in case Long had more trouble with the knee.
The Ravens were looking to add Long as a veteran insurance policy behind rookie sixth-overall pick Ronnie Stanley. If Baltimore still wants to add another veteran, it can continue to watch the free-agent market as other NFL teams make cuts during training camp.
