The Ravens released Curtis Painter on Friday, but added some security at quarterback a couple days later.

According to CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora, Baltimore is signing former Steelers quarterback Dennis Dixon to its practice squad.

The four-year veteran played in four games and started three for Pittsburgh. He started against the Ravens in 2009 and took Baltimore to overtime before throwing a game-deciding interception to linebacker Paul Kruger.

The mobile Dixon, 27, possesses a career 71.4 quarterback rating. He's thrown one touchdown to two interceptions. The Oregon product has 10 rushing attempts for 56 yards.
